PARSES Project
Introduction: Cox`s Bazar is the southern District of Bangladesh. Coastal belt this District effected every years by any type of disaster. Main disasters of this district are Flood, Cyclone, Earthquake tidal wave, river and sea erosion. If damage many assets like men, animal and agriculture products. Children and women effect seriously. Peoples of this area run their livelihood with different unavoidable circumstances. As a result education program (especially Primary education) hampered day by day. So VERC has been implementing awareness based activities on education and Disaster under the project of PARSES both in Teknaf and Cox`s Bazar sadar Upazila of Cox`s Bazar district with the Financial and Technical assistance of Action Aid Bangladesh and UNICEF. Some planned activity of the PARSES project has been completed by this period that are as follows:

1. Conducting Baseline Survey: Data for base line survey has been collected
from sampling basis 4 (four) school out of 40 (forty) school.
2. Organized 7 days PVA TOT at district level: Organized 7 days TOT on PVA(Participatory Vulnerability Analysis) at district level with30 participants (male) at PHALS Training center, bipus road of Cox's Bazar during January 10-16, 2010. Mr. Nurul Alam Nizami, ADC General of Cox`s Bazar attended to the inauguration session of the training on 10/10/2010 at 10.00am.
3. Organized 5 days PVA training : Organized 5 days PVA training at 4 selected venue for the participants of 8 unions. Total attended participants were 120 ( Male-86, Female-34) during January28 to February 3’2010.
4. 3days PVA session at school: 3 days PVA session with students, parents and teacher, SMC & others were held at 40 school. Total attended were 3554( Male-1812,Female-1742).School based plan has developed consider ting the vulnerability of the school.
5. Formation of 40 Students Squad on DRR and CC in 4 Secondary School: Formation Students Squad on DRR(Disaster Risk Reduction) and CC( Climate change) in 4 Secondary School has been completed consisting 40 students in each school
6. Orientation workshop: A orientation workshop at district level on climate change database (Action Plan Development )& Formation of students squad on DRR and CC was held on 16.03.2010. Total attended 35(Male-27,Female-8)
7. School base Workshop: Workshop with students squad to develop action plan on CC school based database in 4 secondary school on March ‘2010. Total attended students 160(Boys-93,Girls-60). After workshop they maintain CC database.
8. Union level workshop: Eight workshop with 8 UP( Union Parishad) for Union level action & contingency plan on DRR in Education (DRRE) were held with 345 participants (Male-277,Female-68) on the 40(Forty)school based vulnerability. UP chairman or representative said what vulnerability is possible to resolve by Test Relief(TR) and Kabikha, they will do that by UP
9.Upazial level workshop:Two workshop titled ‘’Validation of Upazila PVAs and development of Upazila level action & contingency plan on DRRE’’ were held at two upazila( Teknaf and Cox’sBazar Sador) on May 23,24 respectively. Total attended participants were 94(M-80,F-14). Upazila authority agreed to solve the vulnerability of said school.
10.PCT meeting: PCT(Project Coordination Team) meeting were held every month with the team member regularly.
11. Study Circle: Members of Students squad of 4 Secondary School get-together regularly in weekly study circle and discussed themselves. They have been maintaining CC data base(The record of temperature, humidity and rainwater).
12. Solidarity Support( Resilient Support) -5 School :
Solidarity Support to 5 schools are ongoing considering the vulnerability of the school.
